Wilshire Corridor Guest House

Los Angeles

Hutton Wilkinson was asked by clients in the building to create a Venetian Palace high up in the sky on Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles.  Because the ceilings were so low... he promised them "a between floors apartment" rather than a "Piano Nobile".
The clients left town for eight weeks on a trip to South East Asia, Bhutan, Tibet and Nepal.  When they returned, the décor had been completed, candles lighted, music playing, and champagne chilled.  Before Wilkinson let them in the front door he told them, "The question is... Grand Canal or Ganges?"  The front of the house was Grand Canal, but the entire front of the house was decorated like a house-boat in Kashmir.  The clients were delighted, as usual.
